The importance of sleep on overall health is no longer to be proven. But one in particular aspect of nights could be estimated in order to limit exposure to certain diseases: the quality of sleep.

Quality rather than quantity? A Chinese study has shown that certain aspects of sleep outside the number of hours slept had an important link with the risk of contracting certain diseases.

This study by researchers from the University of Peking and the Army Medical University focused on the regularity of sleep, the number of night hours being part of the rest time, the rhythm of sleep as well as the fragmentation of it and many other elements allowing to judge the quality of the nights of 88,461 adults. This sample of people of average age of 62 years made it possible to conclude that the amount of sleep did not precede the right bill.

Risks doubled for cirrhosis of faith, gangrene or even fibrosis

Indeed, after having analyzed the data collected of these seven years of study, the researchers have established a link between the quality of sleep and the risks concerning 172 different diseases. “Some diseases have shown considerable risks attributable to the variable studied, as Parkinson, Pulmonary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, hyperthyroidism and urinary incontinence, “we can read in the study.

For 92 of them, the probabilities even increase by 20% or more in the event of bad night habits. Among them, there are for example Parkinson’s disease or renal failure. Worse, the risks would be double for 42 pathologies, including cirrhosis of faith, gangrene or even fibrosis. According to scientists, the links between the increased risks of illness and the quality of sleep would come from the lack of rest enabled the inflammatory ways of the human body.

“It is time to specify our definition of a” good night’s sleep “” “

Author of this research, Shengfeng Wang explains: “Our results highlight the substitute importance of the regularity of sleep.
