The 42nd edition of the Belluard Bollwerk festival started this Thursday in Friborg. Until July 5, it is dedicated to the ground, the land, the territory and the subsoil, with 34 projects of Swiss and international artists, notably at the Belluard fortress.
(Keystone-ATS) Among the main themes, the festival devoted to living arts, entitled this year “The Gounds We Share”, addresses the colonial heritage and neocolonialism, the forms of solidarity and the links which unite belongings and resistance, multitudes and common terrains.
Performances, visual arts, dance, films, music and discussions appear on the publishing program, the first of Elisa Liepsch as director for the period 2025-2027. The German playwright succeeded Laurence Wagner who had worked at the head of the five previous editions of the demonstration.
The dancer and choreographer Amrita Hepi must open the festival with a performance in which she “explores the way we are talking about the earth, but also the way she shapes us and which we influence her”. Past colonial and neocolonial links of Switzerland will then be discussed by several artists.

Different works will be interested in the genre and will question the idea of femininity and the romantic images linked to it. Between humor and darkness, these projects will call to “revolt against frozen stories, celebrate alliances between women and will imagine possible future”.
Emerging artists from Latin America will still come to share their research on their country. South knowledge and practices will benefit from a special place. The project, named “Ventana Al on”, will offer a space for discussion, analyzes and exchanges on current issues, while promoting international collaboration.
The festival will also offer a space for reflection on transnational solidarity practices and liberation movements, according to the organizers. In particular, it will be a question of the legitimacy of violence as a defense, but also of the ideological appropriation of LGBTQI struggles.
Last year, the event attracted 5,000 visitors, with more than 2,300 spectators for paid parts.
