The truck ball started at 6 a.m. this Saturday, August 2. In the corridors of the maintenance service building, the employees are already awake and ready to clean the city of Neuchâtel. Their missions are diverse: sweepers run daily, some trucks take care of household waste, paper and cantonniers regularly sweep the streets.
On the occasion of August 1, some changes should be noted in terms of logistics: “We have set up an additional sweeper with two people,” explains Steven Jeanmaire, deputy sector manager at the road office, waste and transport sector. This year, the 1is August fell on a Friday. Consequently, more means had to be set up compared to a normal weekend: “We also have three more vehicles turning,” adds Steven Jeanmaire.
On the side of waste collection, apart from additional forces, few changes are to be emphasized: “There is no big change, it’s calm, people sleep and they are right,” said, smiling Olivier Auret, heavyweight driver with roads. During his tour, the driver will ensure that the different waste collection points are accessible for users. Some parameters are computerized, which optimizes cleaning tours and know exactly which bucket should be emptied.
The special waste that could be found after August 1, is not treated by the roads: “The demonstrations, make their order of equipment for the management of their waste, it manages all this themselves”, nuance Steven Jeanmaire. The service should therefore not find fireworks that have not launched during its cleaning. /ecr
