The province of Maniema launched, Wednesday, June 25, a vast vaccination campaign against polio. The operation, which will extend over five days, targets more than 800,000 children aged 0 to 14 in six health zones: Alunguli, Kailo, Kindu, Lubutu, Ferekeni and Obokote.
According to Dr. Walumba Omari, branch chief of the Extended Vaccination Program (PEV) in Kindu, the teams will carry out a door-to-door strategy to reach all targeted children. He calls on parents to keep children at home or give clear instructions to the guards to facilitate access to vaccinators.
« Children are often in motion, especially during holidays. It is therefore important that families are available to accommodate the teams and guarantee that each child is well vaccinated “, He insisted.
This campaign intervenes in a context of increased vigilance, while polio remains a threat in areas with low vaccination coverage. It is part of the joint efforts of the provincial government and its partners to eradicate this disabling disease.
