Nearly 20,000 people gathered on Saturday afternoon on the federal square in Bern to express their solidarity with Gaza. As part of this authorized demonstration, they asked the Federal Council to engage in favor of a ceasefire.
Shortly before the start of the procession, it was difficult to go to the gathering place on the Schützenmatte, a journalist from the Keystone-ATS news agency noted. The demonstrators came from all regions of the country, as indicated by their signs.
If he reached some 5,000 at the start, according to the journalist, the number of participants finally reached nearly 20,000, the organizers said in a press release from Amnesty International.
Organizations such as Campax, the Union Syndicale Switzerland, Amnesty International, the PS and the Green-Es had called to demonstrate. At the same time, several organizations such as BDS Switzerland and the South Global collective have also taken part in the demonstration, however regretting that the demands are not limited to “solidarity with Gaza”.
