Almost one in 8 independent installed in Belgium has another nationality. This proportion is much more important in the Brussels Region, culminating in more than 4 independents out of 10. This is what comes from an analysis of the ACERTA human resources service provider, based on the National Social Insurance Institute for Independent Workers (INASTI) on Thursday.
There are 1,299,825 independent in Belgium – in principal or complementary – according to the latest inasti statistics. Among these, the organization has almost 13%, or 165,826 people, who does not have Belgian nationality. This rate, however, is greatly evolving between regions. It does not exceed 9% in Flanders and Wallonia, while it stands at 41.9% in the Brussels region.
Especially young people
The figures also show that more than half of the self -employed who are not Belgian (56%) have under 45. This is mainly explained by the fact that young foreigners “opt more quickly for entrepreneurship as a means of accessing the labor market”, analyzes Els Schellens, in charge of the self -employed at Acerta.
Foreign independents are mainly active in the industry sector (42.4%), while Belgians dominate the liberal professions sector (35.8%). The commercial sector follows, in both groups.
Very different income
Statistics also demonstrate a difference in terms of income. Only one in five foreign independent has a Annual income less than 5,000 euros, While this rate dates back to one in three Belgians. ACERTA estimates that this difference is due to the greater proportion of complementary independents among Belgians (28% against 13% among independents foreign).
