The Cantons of Geneva and Vaud trigger their alert and heat wave plan on Saturday, due to the scorching temperatures announced by Météosuisse. Their municipalities and sociosanitary institutions will thus deploy several measures provided for in their respective systems.
(Keystone-ATS) These high temperatures should persist at least until next Wednesday, the Geneva and Vaud residents of health in separate press releases on Friday. Their cantonal doctor’s service recommends that everyone protect themselves from heat, hydrate sufficiently and show solidarity with their loved ones and neighborhood.
In the city of Geneva, people who have registered to benefit from individual follow -up from social service during the hot weather will be contacted daily. Retirees have free access to municipal swimming pools and cinema sessions during the activation period of the heat wave plan.
The city also provides fresh places. These are EMS, cafeterias of shopping centers and municipal premises such as senior city, the ethnography museum or the hall of the Vernets swimming pool. In addition, senior city remains open and offers, in addition to a fresh place, professional support.
Reminder of alert signals
In the canton of Vaud, the municipalities set up home visits to the most vulnerable people and/or telephone contact with them to ensure the first prevention line. They provide practical advice on protection against heat to the elderly who do not benefit from home care services.
The Telephone Center for Médecins De Garde (0848 133 133) strengthens its device, in order to provide prevention advice, inform and quickly orient people with symptoms or risk criteria. Sociosanitary institutions (EMS, CMS, Hospitals, ESE, etc.) actively participate in the heat wave with the strengthening of prevention and protection measures of their patients, residents, or users.
As a reminder, the alert signals in the event of heat -related health are: dizziness or fainting, nausea or vomiting, fatigue, headache, aches or cramps, high breathing and high heart rate, extreme thirst and dark colored urine, or even absent.
