A Canadian tourist died in Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, the country’s civil protection agency announced.
The deceased is Dorian Christian Macdonald, 33, who stayed in a hotel on the north side of the island, reported the The National.
The authorities said he was walking on a beach at 2 a.m. on Friday, June 20.
A call to 911 was spent an hour later to report the disappearance of a person on the beach, according to civil defense information.
The body was found at 4:15 am in the high tide by the police officers who went there.
The circumstances of the incident are always unknown. The authorities indicated that they were waiting for the official report of the National Institute of Medico-Legal Sciences (INACIF) to determine the cause of the death of this tourist.
National police and the public prosecutor have opened an investigation.
Contacted by email by the QMI agency, World Affairs Canada confirmed that it was “aware of the death of a Canadian citizen in the Dominican Republic”.
“Consular agents are in contact with local authorities and provide consular assistance to the family,” said the spokesperson.
The latter added that, for reasons of confidentiality, no other information could be disclosed on the case.
