Tropical temperatures have been measured everywhere in Switzerland overnight on Sunday to Monday. In some places, the thermometer even exceeded 26 ° C.

The past night was difficult for many Swiss. And for good reason: in many places in the country, the thermometer has not descended below the 20 ° C bar. Tropical temperatures have been detected in approximately half of the weather measurement stations, around sixty localities.

It was in Ticino and in French -speaking Switzerland that the situation was the most harsh. In Locarno and Nyon, a temperature above 26 ° C was measured at midnight. Vevey, Le Bouveret, Pully, Neuchâtel and Geneva also suffered, with values oscillating between 23.9 ° C and 25.8 ° C in the middle of the night. Out of the ten hottest stations, seven are in French -speaking lands.

Note that most stations that have recorded maximum temperatures below 20 ° C are in the mountains. However, tropical values have also been measured at more than 1000 meters above sea level. This was particularly the case in Ticino and in the Joux valley (VD).

At least until Wednesday

The rest is not very promising. According to weather forecasts, mercury should also climb above 20 ° C in the coming nights, especially around Lake Geneva and in Valais.

The heat wave should last “at least” until Wednesday, said Météosuisse in its latest blog. On Thursday, a cold front is expected to cause some isolated showers and lead to “a slight drop” of maximum temperatures.

From Friday, the evolution is uncertain. Depending on the evolution of atmospheric conditions, the heat wave could “continue for another several days”, or give way to milder temperatures. Until then, one thing is certain: there is no time to store the fan yet.
