The Albanian astronomer Pranvera Hyseni won at the University of California in Santa Cruz the annual prize for the best doctoral project in the Department of Planetary Sciences, reports Albinfo.ch.
This high distinction, awarded once a year to the most promising research project, is accompanied by a scholarship of 3,000 dollars and is considered one of the most important academic honors in planetary astronomy.
Hyseni’s research focuses on asteroids and small bodies of the solar system, in particular those which contain water and organic compounds. It analyzes the processes of transformation of materials and salts containing nitrogen, by combining laboratory experiences, observations in the telescope and theoretical models. This work provides key data on the distribution of water and the possibilities of life at the early stages of our solar system.
“This award is not only a personal success. It also proves that passion and curiosity for science do not know no geographic borders,” said Hyseni, thanking the committee and his colleagues for their continuous support.
Its success is a brilliant new page for Kosovare science and an inspiration for young people who wish to follow their path in the STEM fields. /Albinfo.ch
