The Swedish Armand Duplantis, a double Olympic champion of the pole jump, has once again improved his world record in one centimeter, bringing him to 6.29 meters, Tuesday evening in Budapest.
At 25, “Mondo” Duplantis broke the world record for the 13th time, the third in 2025 after Clermont-Ferrand (6.27 m) in February and Stockholm (6.28 m) at his home on June 15. On Tuesday, he crossed the bar at 6.29 m on his second try.
A third worldwide world title
Since his performance in Stockholm, he had chained three successes at six meters and more (6.13 m in Ostrava in the Czech Republic, 6.00 m in Eugene in Oregon and 6.05 m in Monaco). Duplantis signed a 33rd victorious competition, since its fourth place in Monaco on July 21, 2021.
On Tuesday, he assured the victory by crossing a bar of 6.11 meters on his first try. He was ahead of the Greek Emmanouil Karalis (6.02) and the Australian Kurtis Marschall (5.83 m).
At her second attempt at 6.29 m, Duplantis hit the bar with a leg and her stomach, but she stayed on the cleats and the jump was validated. Duplantis obviously advances as a favorite for a third consecutive world title outdoors, in a month in Tokyo (September 13-21).
