Donald Trump, the leaders of the main European countries and Ukraine, those of NATO and the EU will participate on Wednesday in a “virtual meeting” about Ukraine, two days before the meeting between the American president and Vladimir Putin, the spokesman for Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced on Monday.
These “discussions”, organized on the initiative of Berlin “in different thematic groups”, will focus on “the preparation of possible peace negotiations”, questions “relating to territorial claims and security guarantees” as well as on possible “additional actions” to “exert pressure on Russia”, said Stefan Kornelius in a press release.
Participants will be “the heads of state and government of Germany, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Poland, Ukraine, the president of the European Commission, the president of the European Council, the secretary general of NATO, as well as the American president and his vice-president”, List Berlin.
According to the newspaper “Bild”, a first videoconferencing between the leaders of the European States and the EU, Volodymyr Zelensky and the secretary general of NATO, Mark Rutte, will be followed by a second videoconference, during which will be communicated the result of these consultations to Donald Trump and JD Vance, with the aim of forging a joint position before the meeting planned in Alaska.
