Unemployment in the IT Swiss sector increases

The number of unemployed in the ICT branch increased in July 2025 by 3.2% compared to June and by 18% over a year. According to SECO, more than half of these unemployed work in computer science.

The State Secretariat of Economy (SECO) published its report on the labor market situation in July 2025. During this month, the authority recorded, in the information and communication activity sector, 6,038 unemployed, 190 (3.2%) more than the previous month and 923 (18%) more than July 2024.

On its own, the IT subsector lists 3,933 unemployed people-about 269 more than in January 2025-, which corresponds, compared to June, to an increase of 159 people, or 4.2% and compared to July 2024, 654 people or 19.9%. IT is thus above the average monthly increase in the service category, which, according to the report, amounts to 1.8% in July 2025, specifies the SECO.

In total, in July 2025, 129,154 people were registered for unemployment, 2277 (1.8%) more than in June and 21,438 (19.9%) more than in the same month of the previous year. However, the corrected unemployment rate for seasonal variations remained 2.9 % in July 2025.
