As part of the national celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada, chief judge Richard Wagner, accompanied by judges Nicholas Kasirer and Michelle O’Bonsawin, will go to Yellowknife on September 14 and 15, 2025.
This visit is part of a series of tours organized across the country to strengthen the dialogue between the highest Canadian judicial body and the communities it serves.
According to a press release from the Supreme Court of Canada, on site, the magistrates will participate in a series of activities intended to promote exchanges with students, the general public, the media and representatives of the legal environment.
The organization of this visit was made possible thanks to the support of a local committee, led by Shannon Smallwood, chief judge of the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories.

Chief judge Ritu Khullar, of the Northwest Territories Court of Appeal, also wanted to salute the event as a “historic and significant” moment, stressing “the deep respect of the Supreme Court towards the courts, the bar and the communities of the North” and its commitment to a sincere dialogue with them.
It will be the third of a series of five visits made by judges of the Supreme Court of Canada in different Canadian communities in 2025, including Victoria (C.-B.) in February e Moncton (N.-B.) in March.
After in Yellowknife, judges will go to Sherbrooke (QC) on October 21, 22 and 23, then to Thunder Bay (have.) November 17 and 18.
Created in 1875, the Supreme Court of Canada famous in 2025 its 150th anniversary under the theme “150 years to defend the primacy of law, to inspire public confidence and to serve the community”.
