Six new vulnerabilities discovered in Microsoft Windows

Check Point Software Technologies discovered six new bugs in Microsoft Windows, including a critical flaw with potentially heavy consequences. According to the cybersecurity firm, these problems could cause system crashes, the execution of arbitrary code or the leak of sensitive data.

Check Point confidentially communicated the results to Microsoft, which then deployed the necessary security updates via Patch Tuesday on August 12. What is surprising, according to the cybersecurity firm, is that one of the vulnerabilities is probably the first flaw publicly documented in a component based on rust of the Windows nucleus. ‘This raises important questions about the limits of memory security in modern software,’ said the researchers.

Not a foolproof security

The Windows kernel is the central layer of the Microsoft operating system. The flaw in question could cause complete crash of the system, requiring forced restart and directly putting offline users. The introduction of Rust in Windows aimed to improve system safety. In this specific case, things went wrong, because Rust detected an underlying problem, but did not isolated it, which resulted in a generalized crash.

‘In companies with many workstations or external employees, the risk is significant,’ said one at Check Point. ‘The attackers could theoretically paralyze several systems at once, resulting in large -scale interruptions and high costs. This problem shows that even modern security technologies like Rust do not offer foolproof security. ‘

Disturbing

Among the other five vulnerabilities discovered, two are considered to be ‘particularly disturbing’ by researchers because of their operating potential. These two vulnerabilities, known as CVE-2025-30388 and CVE-2025-53766, allow attackers to execute random code on the affected system, giving them the possibility of integrating any malicious software. ‘Think for example of the installation of external surveillance tools or the launch of other malicious attacks, which can potentially lead to a complete control of the system.’

As always with this kind of crushed vulnerability, it is important that Windows users immediately install the most recent security updates to protect themselves from threats.
