Several cheeses were recalled on Monday and Tuesday, after suspected listeriasis.
Health – A worrying assessment. According to the health point published Wednesday August 13 by Public Health France, 21 cases of listeriosis were identified by the authorities in « lien possible » With the consumption of cheese from the Chavegrand cheese factory, on almost all of French territory.
“The cases are distributed throughout the territory with the exception of the Pays de la Loire”specifies the press release, which details the health situation of contaminated persons, two of whom died.
“These are eleven women and ten men aged 34 to 95, 18 of them are over 65”reports Public Health France. Among them, two lost their lives, we learned on Wednesday. For the time being, the profile of these two deceased victims is not known.
Among these 21 people, “Three of them took long-term drug treatments likely to promote digestive infections and all others had co-morbidities known as risk factors for listeriosis (cancers, diabetes, cardiac pathologies or a great age)”.
“Extremely rare and unhappy”

The CHAVEGRAND cheese dairy had already reacted Tuesday by sending its “Condolences to affected families”. She had specified that the cheeses recalled in June and August were produced on an old production line, closed in early June, replaced by a new line, and subject to “A very reinforced analysis plan”which has still not made it possible to find a trace of Listeria within the cheese dairy.
Listeriosis, caused by the Listeria Monocytogenes, is the second cause of mortality by food poisoning with, in France, a few dozen deaths per year.
