A social worker killed during a home visit to Ghent

The 56 -year -old social worker, killed on Wednesday during a home visit to Ghent, was fatally stabbed, the Belga agency of good source learned Thursday. The occupant of the apartment, a 38 -year -old man, was arrested. He is suspected of assassination.

The alert was given by a colleague from the victim who, not seeing him come back from his tour, contacted the police. The agents found the body to the address of its last visit. An investigation was opened. The investigating judge, the scientific laboratory and a medical examiner went there.

An autopsy must still be practiced, but the external examination of the body revealed that the man had been stabbed.

The suspect, who was not present on the scene, was arrested in the city center after some research. He is currently questioned and will probably be presented to the investigating judge, who will decide his placement in detention.

The investigating judge is seized for assassination, but it is still unknown what the suspect declared on the circumstances of the facts. The man was not known to the police or justice, even if the Public Prosecutor’s Office has not yet been able to confirm this information.

The various services of the CPAS of Ghent will remain closed until Monday August 18, the unions announced in a letter addressed to the communal college and the management. Employee representatives demand that the city of Ghent “can guarantee the safety of its staff”, while attacks on social workers have increased in recent years.
