The Digi telecoms operator is already in Belgium

The telecom operator, who had quickly attracted the Belgian market upon arrival, now sees its customer growth clearly slow down.

At the end of June, Digi Belgium had around 62,000 mobile customers, barely 9,000 more than in March. This figure, communicated by the Romanian parent company, does not take into account the fixed network during deployment, for which no assessment is yet published.

A less reactive market than expected

Despite aggressive offers – 15 GB for 5 euros per month, then a 3 -euro package for 5 GB launched in early June – the operator did not cause the solid exodus expected from his competitors. The latter had already pointed out the absence of a tidal wave. The launch was also tarnished by customer complaints and a change of direction.

In May, the Federal Minister of Telecommunications, Vanessa Matz (the commitments), continued Digi in justice. A month later, the Brussels company court sentenced the operator for breach of certain safety and authorization rules.

Reorganization with CitymeSh

In July, the parent company informed its shareholders of several restructuring with its Belgian partner Citymesh (49 % of the capital against 51 % for DIGI) in order to simplify shareholding. Belgian results will now be integrated into the group’s consolidated accounts.

During a conference call, management recognized the low increase in the second quarter, after a start -up by “strong expectations of the Belgian market”. Objective now: to expand the distribution channels to revive growth, while highlighting the satisfaction of the customer already acquired.
