A dozen children potentially exposed to measles

The public health authorities of Prince Edward Island claim to have identified ten young children who have been exposed to measles.

According to Dre Morrison, individuals at high risk of infection who may have been exposed should contact public health as quickly as possible since immunoglobulin treatments must be administered within six days of exposure to the virus.

Anyone who has never been immunized against or infected with measles and has been exposed to the cases reported in the province must avoid public places during the virus incubation period, between the fifth day after exposure and the 16th day following the containment period.

Measles is one of the most contagious diseases. The measles virus is transmitted by air and by contact with secretions.

An eruption, fever, cough and conjunctivitis are part of the symptoms.
