A 91-year-old hiker, victim of heart discomfort, was rescued by Rega Thursday afternoon in the Gorges de l’Orbe. She was helicoptered to the CHUV. The steep nature of the field and the proximity of cliffs made the operation delicate.
(Keystone-ATS) The nonagenarian hike in the company of seven other people. “The location of the discomfort being in a dense and steep forest, it was impossible for the crew to visualize the group from the air,” said Rega on Friday in a statement. A person in the group then used the Rega application to transmit precise contact details.
Three Swiss Alpine rescue specialists joined the group on foot, while an emergency doctor was hellulled on the spot. The helicopter crew was then able to extract the victim through a breakthrough in the forest.
The REG underlines the need for the helicopter to have precise coordinates of the place of intervention. It recalls that by alarming the Rega via the emergency number 1414 or via its specific application “a precise geolocation is transmitted to the intervention center, which saves precious time on a mission”.
