In Onex, we dream of an outdoor municipal swimming pool
An initiative asking the executive to study the realization of a new infrastructure has succeeded. The mayor qualifies the request for unrealistic.

Build an outdoor swimming pool in Onex. Here is the dream of the municipal section of the Socialist Party. In order to realize it, the latter raised hundreds of signatures and has just succeeded an initiative.
“We had no trouble convincing the population to follow us,” says the municipal councilor Romain Gauthier. HAS Onexwe only have an outdoor paddling pool, but she is already a certain age and is rather intended for small children. However, we realize that with the hot summers that we live, a real outdoor swimming pool could meet the needs of the population and in particular the inhabitants who do not go on vacation. ”
The Socialists Onesian now ask that this project, that they estimate between 15 to 18 million, be studied within the framework of the ongoing discussions concerning the repair of the Interior Municipal Swimming Pool.
Missing funding
So when can the Onesians swim in the open air? Not before decades deplore Mayor Anne Kleiner. “A priori, it is a very nice idea, but the town has absolutely no means to pay the construction and maintenance of such an infrastructure. We already wonder how we are going to be able to finance the renovation of the existing pool… ”
Will the executive still study this proposal? “It will be quite easy to prove that it is not within our reach. It will be enough for us to show our ten -year investment plan… ”launches the magistrate of the center.
She adds that if the project seems totally impracticable in the short term, nothing would prevent it from thinking about it again within fifteen years, “as long as the financial situation of the town has changed …”
A beach by the Rhône?
On the side of the initiators, Romain Gauthier remains confident. He stresses that the municipal debt has been at its lowest level for twenty years. “I think that Oonx has the means to finance such a project, especially since it will eventually bring income to the municipality.”
The opinions being drastically divergent, political debates around this subject promise to be animated. And if the creation of a swimming pool is not expected for several years, the Onesians may be able to wait in the fridge on the side of the Rhône. The town and the canton are currently studying the possibility of developing a secure swimming location.
