At the heart of the General Motors Design Center in Warren, Michigan, Chevrolet unveiled the Corvette CX Concept, a prototype that imagines what the legendary American sports could become. Officially, this is not yet the next generation (C9), but designers admit that this concept will strongly influence the future model. Called CX to encourage to think about the C10 already (the one that will succeed the next Corvette), this style study intends to raise even more the prestige of the name Corvette within Chevrolet, rather than transforming it into a separate brand.
2,000 horsepower and four engines
Like California Corvette Concept, the CX is 100 % electric. It would be equipped with four electric motors, one per wheel, for a combined power of 2,000 hp, with active vectorization of the torque and all -wheel drive.
The 90 kWh lithium-ion battery would be integrated into a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, optimized for aerodynamics. Duces under the car, a floor suction system and an active rear fin complete the system, developed in collaboration with the GM Motorsports Aero division.
A futuristic interior
Access is by a monobloc canopy (windshield, roof and hood), recalling science fiction. The windshield incorporates a full head display (HUD), using invisible pixels to project instruments and navigation. Inside, there are fixed seats molded in carbon fiber with adjustable folders, a Yoke type steering wheel with touch and physical controls, a bright red cabin in ballistic textiles, inspired by the 1959 Sting Ray concept, with machined aluminum and matte carbon fiber.
From virtual to reality: the CX.R version Vision Gran Turismo
Unlike the previous concepts designed abroad, the CX does exist in life -size model, unveiled at The Quail – at Motorsports Gathering during the Monterey Car Week.
In parallel, Chevrolet revealed the CX.R Vision Gran Turismo, a hybrid race version which will soon be available in Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation. It combines a 900 hp 2.0 -liter twin -turbo V8 capable of climbing 15,000 rpm, three electric motors and renewable fuels to also reach 2,000 hp. You also have a racing suspension, a fixed rear spoiler, lightened chassis and stripped interior with arceau and harnesses complete the whole.
Towards the future C9?
Chevrolet insists: the CX concept is not the C9, but its influence is undeniable. In the meantime, the virtual CX.R will allow enthusiasts to test what the corvette of tomorrow could be … before it even happens in production.
