Leg lengthening surgery appeals to an increasing number of men ready to endure pain and risks to win a few centimeters. According to an article published by «The Guardian» and spotted by “Blick»this intervention, long reserved for patients with malformations or inequalities in length of the legs, now mainly attracts male clientele motivated by aesthetic reasons.
This trend has grown so much that she inspired the film “Materialists”released in June, with Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal, notes “Blick”. In Switzerland, the situation is radically different: hospitals practice bone extension only for medical reasons, orthopedists judging the aesthetic use disproportionate to risks, according to the media.

The operation is particularly invasive: the surgeon cuts the tibia or the femur, sometimes both, and inserts a metal rod in each bone. The patient must then run a key fixed on the device daily for about three months. The bone deviates from about a millimeter per day and is gradually rebuilt, allowing to gain ten centimeters.
Medical tourism
Turkey has become the preferred destination for this type of intervention, thanks to softening conditions, more attractive prices than in Western Europe and specialized clinics. Frank’s testimony, a 38-year-old Briton measuring 1.70 m, at the “Guardian” illustrates this trend: he spent $ 32,000 (around 26,000 francs) for his operation in Istanbul, while the same surgery would have cost more than 50,000 pounds (54,700 francs) in the United Kingdom.
Men who use this surgery often evoke the humiliation of being small. Despite the considerable risks and a convalescence which can last up to a year before regaining a normal life, the aesthetic extension sector is expanding. An Indian design firm estimates that it will weigh $ 8.6 billion (7 billion francs) by 2030.
