Behind the masterpieces, the masters

Lucerne, 1888. In the heart of an era marked by the upheaval and renewal, Carl Friedrich Bucherer founded a house which quickly takes off far beyond the banks of the Lac des Quatre Cantons. From its beginnings, Bucherer combines Swiss watchmaker with a service of excellence and deep know-how.

Today, Bucherer stands out as a reference in the world of luxury watchmaking. Bucherer is no longer just a retailer, but also a passer, an expert, a curator, a house that preserves tradition while encouraging innovation. A house, too, which allows its customers to discover the exclusive universe of watchmaking.

In the Masters at Work series, Bucherer plays the role of ambassador of Haute Horlogerie and, through the cinematographic know-how deployed, pays tribute to subtle art that is the measurement of time. Masters at Work puts crafts, technology and passion in the spotlight by offering a rare and precious overview of workshops where time is not only measured, but also thought.

How to push technical limits? What vision of the world is embodied in the construction of a whirlwind? And what happens when traditional mechanics encounters modern vision? Masters at Work asks deep questions, and the masters provide as accurate answers as their masterpieces. These episodes perfectly illustrate the work of masters with multiple facets:

Porthole or impetuous youth

Julian Tornare describes collaboration with Bucherer for the Masters at Work series as “a platform that allows us to present the most complex watches to the public, the manufacturing of which requires considerable expertise”.

Ulysses Nardin, the visionary

From the 1860s, Ulysse Nardin acquired international renown thanks to his ultra-preccosed naval chronometers. Some one hundred and twenty years later, Ludwig Ochslin collaborated with the owner Rolf Schnyder to design the Astrolabium, the first model of Trilogy of Time, a series of three exceptional watches both technically and aesthetically. Ludwig Ochslin will then tell how the heritage of Ulysse Nardin, his fascination for calendar watches and his curious mind inspired the Freak. This revolutionary and first conceptual watchpack has profoundly upset the universe of high watchmaking thanks to modern watchmaker and exceptional know-how that shaped it. Jean-Christophe Sabatier, CPO and senior product manager, explains what to wear a Freak means, and highlights the principles which guide, even today, the innovative spirit of Ulysses Nardin in the conception of his watches.

A digital scene that has relief

Masters at Work brings together known brands, whose names resonate in the workshops of Geneva, Brassus or Chaux-de-Fonds, and independent voices: from Jaeger-LeCoultre to Urwerk, Jean-Claude Biver in Ludwig Ochslin, a varied panorama of contemporary high watchmaking is emerging. It is a unique overview of the entire sector offered to you, from the avant-garde to tradition.

For more than a decade, Bucherer has allowed us to touch the essence of watchmaking art: thanks to ephemeral exhibitions in its flagship shops and artistic installations, time becomes a sensory experience. Special and itinerant exhibitions present this idea beyond the shops.

Completing this experiential universe by a quality storytelling, Masters at Work connects physical experience to the digital world. Bucherer thus turns into a smuggler between the masters of watchmaker and the people who carry their masterpieces.
