“Call of Duty” and the suite of “Black myth: Wukong” Immark the opening of Gamescom: News

A “Call of Duty” Call of Duty, the continuation of “Black Myth: Wukong”, world success in 2024, and the “Resident Evil” monsters animated the opening evening in Germany in Gamescom, one of the biggest video game salons.

In front of an audience bringing together more than 5,300 people (a record according to the organizers) the Canadian presenter Geoff Keighley unveiled the first images of “Black Myth: Zhong Kui” from the Chinese studio Game Science, continuation of “Black Myth: Wukong” which had passed more than 25 million copies in 2024.

“The video game industry has never been so dynamic,” launched the host on stage at the opening of this big celebration of the video games, where several dozen titles were unveiled to the public.

Announced for November 14, the shooting game “Call of Duty: Black Ops 7” will plunge players in 2035, within psychedelic sets that recall the twisted roads and buildings of the film “Inception”.

Robots, drones … The game offers a vision of the future “realistic but twisted”, promised Miles Leslie, creative director at Treyarch, one of the studios behind the game.

American actor Milo Ventimiglia, known for his roles in the series “Heroes” and “This is us”, will embody the main character.

The space adventure game “The Outer Worlds 2” and the next opus in the horrific saga “Resident Evil”, entitled “Requiem”, were also presented during this two-hour evening, punctuated by the broadcasting of several dozen trailers.

“I love horror games and he looks terrifying, so I really want to try it,” said AFP Chloe Jones, 26, after the show.

Scheduled for 2026, a Lego Batman game has also been announced and will resume “the emblematic moments of several decades of films, television series, comics and Batman games”, according to project director Jonathan Smith.

The stars of the Amazon “Fallout” series came on stage presenting the second season of this adaptation of a saga of post-apocalyptic video games. Expected on December 17, this time it will be inspired by the opus “New Vegas” released in 2010.

But the ceremony also gave pride of place to more modest productions, which shone this year thanks to successes like “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33”, a French game from a small independent studio sold in more than four million copies.

“Small teams with large ideas can change industry,” said Geoff Keighley as a preamble to the ceremony, during which composer Lorien Testard and singer Alice Duport-Percier interpreted the main theme of the game.

“He really had a huge impact on the players,” enthuses Vera Sperber, a 36 -year -old German, wearing red and sailor Béret, like the protagonists of “Expedition 33”.

As of Wednesday, professionals and amateurs will meet for five days in the huge halls of the Koelnmesse exhibition center, where each studio has its stand to allow visitors to test the latest news.

Nearly 335,000 visitors had gone to the 2024 edition.

Among the titles playable this year: the new episodes of the Japanese horror sagas “Silent Hill” and “Resident Evil”, the long -awaited suite of a nugget of the independent scene, “Hollow Knight: Silksong”, or even “Kirby Air Riders”, racing game revealed Tuesday featuring the little round and pink hero of Nintendo.

Absent last year, Nintendo signs its return, haloed by the record launch of the Switch 2, while Xbox (Microsoft) will present its new portable consoles scheduled for the end of the year. Japanese Sony preferred to ignore it.
