Israel threatens France to impose the closure of its consulate general in Jerusalem

Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Saar would have recommended Benyamin Netanyahu to close the French representation in response to the announced recognition of a state of Palestine.

According to an article published on Sunday by the daily close to the government Israel Hayom, Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Saar recommended Benyamin Netanyahu the closure of the French consulate in Jerusalem. This threat, which has not been the subject of any denial of the Israeli authorities, is presented as a response to the French decision to soon recognize the state of Palestine. The closure of this consulate would not be a trivial act, with regard to the specificity of its history and its mission since its creation in the 16th century.

A diplomatic source recalls that the existence of this consulate general of France has long been a source of tensions.
