In the laboratories of the Materia Nova Research Center, Adriano Panepinto, manager of the hybrid plasalysis project shows the machine installed “This is called a prototype plasmalysis whose objective is to dissociate methane into hydrogen and solid carbon”.
Obtaining hydrogens without emitting CO2 in the atmosphere is a complex process. Here in Mons, it has been working on this innovative solution for two years. The idea of the research center is to produce hydrogen with local raw material. “And so, it’s working with methane” poursuit adriano panepinto “Which can either be of mine gas origin, because we have a lot of resources available in the region, but we also try to work on biomethane”.
The project is still at the experimental stage but already arouses a lot of interest from industrialists. Hydrogen is indeed used to produce fertilizer in the glass and steel industry too.
“Today to produce the hydrogen they use, these industrialists emit a lot of CO² and therefore the idea would be to replace this polluting technology with that which we develop today” still specifies Adriano Panepinto.
Ultimately, the Montois system could therefore be established directly on the site of interested industrialists.
