This recognition of the European Union comes after fifteen years of research carried out by the Zespri brand. The Kiwis distributor documented the benefits of the fruit, especially through 18 studies. In 2018, Zespri then submitted a complete scientific file to EFSA. Six of the 18 human intervention studies carried out by the brand were considered as solid bases to prove the effect of green kiwi on the functioning of the intestines. In 2021, the EFSA rendered a positive scientific opinion on the file, which later led to the official delivery of health allegation by the European Union.
