Pierre Jeanniot, former CEO of Air Canada, is no longer

Pierre Jeanniotformer president and chief executive officer ofAir Canadadied on June 22, 2025 in Montreal at the age of 92.

Born in Marseille, Pierre Jeanniot is recognized as a visionary leader and a pioneer whose contributions have marked civil aviation in Canada and internationally.

Having started his career at Trans-Canada Airlineshe climbed the levels until it became president and chief executive officer of Air Canada from 1984 to 1990. He then led the process of privatization of the state airline, which he remained at the head for two additional years.

Under his governing, Air Canada introduced several innovations later taken up in the industry, such as the first smoke -free flights in the world or the first transatlantic exploitation of a large twin -wing carrier, recalls his profile LinkedIn.

Pierre Jeanniot then held the position of Managing Director of theIATA.

Associated with the development of the first modern black box

Throughout his career, he has contributed significantly to the evolution of world air transport. It is notably associated with the development of the first modern black box, a major advance in air security.

Pierre Jeanniot has also sat on many boards of directors in the aeronautical, high -tech, telecommunications, finance and publishing sectors.

Also engaged in university and philanthropic circles, he chaired the board of directors of theUniversity of Quebec in Montreal (Uqam) then that of the UQAM Foundationin addition to having been the very first chancellor.

Highly decorated in the country and internationally, Pierre Jeanniot has received many distinctions: Officer of the Order of Canada, LEGION OF HONOR Officer, Knight of the National Order of Quebecenthroned member of Pantheon of Air and Espace du Québecemeritus member of several prestigious institutions, as well as Doctor Honoris Causa fromUniversity of Quebecof the University McGill andConcordia University.

“His warm laugh, his wisdom, his great generosity, his discreet elegance and his unwavering optimism will continue to live in the hearts of those who have had the privilege of knowing it”, can be read in the NECRology published in The Globe and Mail.

It is mentioned that Pierre Jeanniot is survived by his wife, Marcia, his three children Pierre (Sharon), Michel (Danielle) and Lynn (Serge), her grandchildren PJ, Natalie and Caroline (Carl), her great-granddaughters from Chloé and Charlotte, as well as many relatives and close friends.

The funeral and the commemorative ceremony will take place on July 10 at Côte-des-Neiges funeral centerlocated at 4525 chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges, in Montreal, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The service will follow at noon. The family will welcome relatives and friends to testify their affection, recognition and tributes.
