This Thursday, August 21 at the end of the day, a bunch of nearly 60 dead ducks was discovered in Péronne in the Somme, near a suburban area. The discovery of this mass grave caused strong reactions, even in the community of hunters who firmly condemned this behavior.
A case that sparked strong reactions.
Following the discovery of a bunch of wild ducks who died in a field near a residential area of Péronne, the reactions were rapid and at all levels as soon as the case began to be publicized.
The fact that this affair coincides with the opening of the hunt for water game has already submitted to pressures from all sides since June has helped to ensure that generalist media are grasping the file.
What is certain is that in all levels, this story generates anger, misunderstanding and revolt. From the elected officials of the town hall who have decided to bring the case to court to the federation of hunters who also reserves the right to intervene if necessary.
« Three local agents (DEB – editor’s note) with are returned on site this morning (Friday) and made their first observations. These are mainly corpses of ducks, males and female, but there are also other migratory ducks, three sarcelles, a stack and a duck pilet told us the OFB. It’s incredible. “Explained the deputy mayor of PĂ©ronne.
While an investigation was likely to be opened, the case finally took a different turn on Friday afternoon.
“A timing problem”.
The case began to make a big splash and in the face of the magnitude that history took, one of the managers of this mass grave decided to spontaneously appear at the gendarmerie of Péronne.
He is a local hunter who said he was part of the group who abandoned sixty ducks killed in a sector he considered isolated.
According to the elements reported by the Picard mail, the latter explained that he wanted to bury the ducks at the base but that he had ultimately not had time and would therefore have left the carcasses on the spot.
The Amiens prosecutor’s office has nevertheless seized the case and will decide whether judicial consequences will be given while the gendarmerie investigation continues.
A visibly deep unconsciousness of a deplorable act.
The case will surely have a good consequences given the scale that history has been able to take, especially in the local and national media.
However, we can ask ourselves the question of why a group of hunters allows himself to kill nearly 60 ducks if it is to just take the flanks before throwing the rest?
As indicated by the spokesperson for the Federation of Hunters of the Somme, some hunters who are not on the same migration corridors or on the same wetlands do not do that of their whole season.
If there are PMAs, it is to respect them. It is to be hoped that the investigation will make it possible to shed light on this story and to ensure that this kind of behavior are simply abolished from the world of French hunting.
