Ticino and Neuchâtel introduced new rules on July 1 to limit the admission of new doctors, according to their specialization, whose practices are covered by health insurance. This change should make it possible to stem the increase in health costs.
In the canton of Neuchâtel, six specializations on forty-five will be affected, including surgery, orthopedic surgery or ophthalmology. General practitioners, pediatricians and psychiatrists, in particular, are not affected.
Scenario similar to Ticino, where ambulatory medicine represents 40% of the sanitary slate. The new regime will limit in particular, cardiology and gastroenterology. A regressive model will also be applied, among other things, in oncology and plastic surgery.
Concern
Concretely, when a specialist ceases to exercise, he can no longer be replaced by a new doctor. Practitioners say they are worried and predict shortages and patient follow -up problems in the long term.
Note that other measures must soon be announced by several cantons, including Friborg.
It was Geneva who opened the walk in 2023, with some adaptations occurred along the way.
