A Wikipedia page is even devoted to him: after 40 years, the blue screen will bow out. But for Microsoft, what does that mean?

Windows users will have to be courageous. The well -known blue screen, and humorously nicknamed the “Blue Screen of Death” (blue screen of death), will disappear.

A concern for readability

This was announced in a blog post David Weston, the vice-president responsible for business security and the operating system at Microsoft. In the future, the message that will appear in the event of a critical error will appear in black, and no longer in blue.

According to David Weston, the reason is that “the new user interface improves readability, and better corresponds to the design lines of Windows 11.” The information for diagnosing the cause of the crash will however remain accessible.

A desire to improve

Microsoft plans to introduce this new user interface for unexpected restarts from the end of this summer, on all devices equipped with Windows 11 version 24H2.

This change is part of a broader transformation of the operating system. Microsoft seeks to make Windows more resilient in the face of planting, in response to the global computer failure last summer.

According to David Weston, as he writes in his blog post:

“Building organizational resilience is a strategic necessity in a new era of digital possibilities”

Avoid generalized “blackout”

Last summer, millions of Windows PCs were paralyzed by a defective update of the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike. Microsoft estimates that around 8.5 million computers had been affected. At the time, blue error messages were visible on countless public screens.

The airline was particularly affected. But some supermarkets, hospitals, banks and television channels had also encountered problems.

The president of the German Federal IT security office, Claudia Plattner, had then called on companies, after this world crash, to take precautionary measures. It is only in this way they could become more resistant to cybersecurity incidents.
