Linguizzetta, Quenza … Two fires broke out this weekend and burned dozens of hectares of vegetation.
Saturday 28 juin a Feat by the civil tray – Intervian fortile center at Linguizzetta, in Linguizzetta, in the Category: International Airlines
But the famous Canadair, nicknamed “Pelican”, only arrived the next day, Sunday in the morning.
A delay which raises strong criticisms from elected officials and a firefighter union, especially in the middle of a heat wave.
The STC firefighters’ union went up to the niche. He denounces an outdated organization and demands permanently positioned air resources in Corsica, not only in summer.
Their argument: from Nîmes, it takes almost two hours for a Canadair to arrive. Since Ajaccio? Less than 40 minutes.
State position
From its coast, the state replies that the Dash was sent very quickly, and the Canadair engaged as soon as necessary.
The planes are officially detached in Corsica from July 7, a week later that in previous years.
But they can be transported earlier if the risk is high, as has expanded this weekend.
An adaptation to climate change
The real issue is adaptation to climate change. The summers start earlier, the floors are drier, the winds quickly stir up the flames.
Result: you have to intervene very quickly to stop an emerging fire. And this requires means present on site.
Firefighters are asking for a sustainable strategy, with Canadair based in Corsica in June.
Will the state be reviewing its device? For the moment, nothing is officially changing.
But on the ground, the fire does not wait.
