The Friborg cantonal police and the Office of Traffic and Navigation (OCN) appeal to caution. They note a “disturbing” increase in the number of road users circulating under the effect of alcohol and/or drugs since the beginning of the year.
(Keystone-ATS) This type of behavior can lead to serious consequences, police recalled on Tuesday. Between January 1 and June 22, 499 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol were found on the Friborg roads, against 409 for the same period last year and 382 in comparison over two years.
For cases of driving under the influence of narcotics, the police have noted 331 cases since the start of the year, against 286 in 2024 and 239 in 2023. Alcohol or drug alcohol accidents have evolved in stability between 2023 and 2024, while being significantly increasing with regard to 2022.
Driving fatigue is also a significant accident factor, with almost a case noted each week, the statement said.
