The stigma of the cruel 2-1 defeat conceded by the Swiss team against Norway were of course visible on the faces of the Swiss when confiding in the press. But there was also pride in the boiling bowels of the Saint-Jacques park. Right right, because the Helvetians delivered a recital for 50 minutes in front of a magnificent audience that the players did not fail to thank for his noisy support.
Nadine Riesen (defender): This result is very frustrating. We have given everything, carried by this atmosphere. To make all these spectators proud, we wanted to leave our guts on the lawn. Unfortunately, this was not enough. During the first half, we completely dominated. We played our game, we showed what we were capable of. Then we may have wanted it too much. My goal? It was wonderful. I will never forget this celebration with my teammates.
Noemi Ivelj (Middle): We really entered the match. The atmosphere was incredible. There was a lot of emotions during the anthem, I almost cried. I turned to Iman (Editor’s note: Beney) who was next to me that it was magnificent to see and hear that. We were happy but also a little nervous. It was crazy to see so many people present to support us. The second half … We lost too much balloons. If everything went against us? It’s football. No matter what’s going on. We have to continue, we have to make our match. It’s not over. It was only the first match. We want to win the following.
Viola Calligaris (Défense): I am disappointed. The exceptional first half? This is a bit of the problem we have. It’s just a half. You really have to work well on this to play well for 90 minutes. The matches are really intense, the pace was very high and that’s where the details count. As soon as you take a break or make a little mistake, the opponent will use it directly. You can still be proud. We showed that we could very well play together. Even after the break, we didn’t play badly, we just committed a few blunders.
