The commission of inquiry driven by deputies Les Républicains on the links between policies and terrorist or Islamist networks, implicitly targeting LFI, underwent a new setback this Wednesday, July 2. Barely a few hours after her election, her president, the socialist deputy Sophie Pantel, decided to resign.
The parliamentarian sent a letter to the administration of the National Assembly, consulted by AFP, to tell him about her choice. “With regard to the composition of the office of this commission of inquiry, the socialist group does not wish to maintain the presidency of it”she explained.
The office, a body made up of members of the commission of inquiry, is responsible for organizing its work, and notably debates people to audition. He was also elected on Wednesday. However, no deputy from the four left groups was elected in the eight positions at stake. It includes two deputies from the National Rally and six of the central block. The presidency was to return to an opposition group, and Sophie Pantel was elected against Aymeric Caron, related LFI.
At the end of the vote, Caron had denounced before the press an agreement between “The macronist camp, the right and the extreme right” for them “Exclude from the body” which allows “Inforce the choices of people who will be interviewed”in order to make the commission a “trial” against his political group. “Unfortunately, we see once again the methods worthy of the mafia of LFI : blackmail, threat and intimidation. The PS had the opportunity to show that they are on the right side of the Republic, it is missed ”, reacted the commission’s rapporteur, the deputy LR Vincent Jeanbrun. “The Wauquiez commission of inquiry is reaching unrivaled clowning”reacted to X the head of rebellious deputies Mathilde Panot after the announcement of the resignation.
The vote to designate the new chairman of the committee will take place on July 8, according to those around him. The commission of inquiry, requested by the group of Laurent Wauquiez (LR), was validated in mid-June by the Assembly and wants to investigate the links between political leaders and networks supporting “Terrorist action or propagating Islamist ideology”. Laurent Wauquiez had returned after a first failure two weeks earlier, the assembly having deemed inadmissible his first request which explicitly aimed at France Insoumise in his proposal for resolution.
