Public Health France published this Monday, June 30, 2025 on Monday, 2025 a detailed assessment of cardio-neurovascular health in each region, department and infradartmental territory. This report focuses on three major pathologies: ischemic heart disease, stroke (stroke) and heart failure.

Second cause of mortality in France, cardio-necusal diseases lead to 140,000 deaths each year and more than a million hospitalizations in adults.

In Burgundy-Franche-Comté, between 2021 and 2023, the hospitalization rate for ischemic heart disease was slightly higher than the national average, with 470 hospitalizations per 100,000 inhabitants against 459 in France. On average, 11,537 patients are hospitalized each year in the region. The prevalence was 5.6 % in 2022, comparable to that of the whole country. The mortality rate linked to this pathology was as higher than the national average.

For heart failure, the hospitalization rate was similar to that of France (342 against 344 per 100,000 inhabitants), with around 8,719 hospitalized patients each year. Prevalence and mortality also remained close to national data.

Regarding strokes, the hospitalization rate in Burgundy-Franche-Comté was very close to that of France, with 230 hospitalizations per 100,000 inhabitants and around 5,699 patients hospitalized per year. Prevalence and mortality were also comparable.

However, the study highlights significant disparities within the region. The Haute-Saône has higher incidence rates for the three pathologies. In Nièvre and Yonne, mortality rates are higher than those observed elsewhere in Burgundy-Franche-Comté.

These observations recall the need to strengthen prevention, improve rapid management and patient monitoring throughout the territory.

To support this approach, Public Health France is launching a new awareness campaign around Nutri-Score, whose calculation has recently been updated. A study shows that the consumption of smaller nutritional foods, according to the Nutri-Score, increases the risk of cardio-necked disease.

The detailed bulletin for Burgundy-Franche-Comté is available on the France Public Health Site.
