ArmyThe Swiss “surprisingly open” in military service
A “positive representation of the voluntary military service predominates” in young women, according to a study by the army.
According to the survey, 50% of young Swiss people imagine that military service is “demanding but profitable”.
DdpWould the Swiss dreams dream of doing military service? We are not quite there, but the Swiss army reveals this Thursday the results of a survey on this theme. A study is underlined, which “demonstrates an surprisingly high opening of mind of young women with regard to voluntary military service and a need to receive more information in this regard”.
How does this beautiful open-mindedness materialize? According to this survey, a “positive representation of military service predominates”. 50% of young Swiss people imagine him demanding but profitable. 44% think that it “allows you to prove yourself and discover your own limits”. 30%, that it improves physical condition. 26% that we learn to organize. And 26% of respondents “can imagine themselves carrying out military service on a voluntary basis”.
According to the army, only a minority of the Swiss would have a negative image of military service. 17%”think that it is essentially to be screaming on it”, 15%, that it is useless and that it is a waste of time and 12%, that it is boring.
It is still noted that the proportion of young Swiss people who consider themselves relatively well informed on military service is only 38%.
Strengthened by these observations, and in order to increase the proportion of women in its ranks, deemed still “minimal”, the army says it wants to strengthen its offer of information and communication about women in the army, stressing “the usefulness of tasks and activities” that it offers.
This study was conducted by the Yougov External Research Institute, which interviewed a representative sample of 1317 Switzernesses aged 15 to 25.
