Châtel-St-Denis: Greenpeace gives a petition at Allseas

This Thursday morning, Greenpeace Switzerland presented a petition at 14,510 people to the headquarters of Châtel-Saint-Denis, demanding the abandonment of the mining extraction project in deep waters.

Allseas is a partner of the Canadian company The Metals Company to exploit the Pacific’s seabed without the authorization of the International Marine Authority (AIFM). The two companies are counting on a decree by President Donald Trump to circumvent international law.

In addition to Switzerland, activists have demonstrated in the Netherlands against the industrial facilities of Allseas. The Swiss Federal Council recalled its attachment to “respect for applicable law” and to “relevant international standards”.

37 states, including Switzerland, now support a global moratorium on mining in deep waters. The next AIFM conference at the end of July could be decisive.

As a reminder, the head office of Châtel-St-Denis was the subject of malicious acts in mid-June. The latter required the intervention of firefighters and the police in the Pra of Plan industrial zone. They were claimed by the militant movement of land.
