This measure had been announced by the Minister of Education, Elisabeth Borne, at the beginning of the year, when a high school student had been seriously injured during a knife attack in the courtyard of her establishment in Bagneux (Hauts-de-Seine).
Since then, other attacks have marked the news, including the murder of a college supervisor in Nogent (Haute-Marne) and that of a high school student by another teenager in Nantes.
These attacks have aroused many reactions in the political world, some elected officials calling for the strengthening of security measures, including a tightening of controls. For the time being, the government announced, at the beginning of June, that 186 knives had been found on the occasion of more than 6,000 unexpected excavations carried out since the end of March.
