The XV of female Belgium goes up in championship!

Good news from Belgium Rugby: the Belgian female national team in XV, winner of Rugby Europe Trophy last April, is promoted in Championship. Recognition and reward that allow lionesses to join “the highest level of European competition ‘after the VI Nations.

“This climb is a major step for women’s rugby in Belgium. It rewards years of work with our committed clubs, and investment in training within Power Girls, Womenization and Performance projects,” said Michiel Leysen, president of the Belgian Federation.

“The Federation wishes to warmly congratulate all the players, the staff as well as all the supporters who contributed to this historical success,” concludes the statement of Belgium Rugby.

Thanks to its victories in Germany and against Finland in the spring, the XV of female Belgium coached by Gaëtan Kabasele, Benjamin Rossignol and Jesse Ngesa won the Rugby Europe Trophy, a first trophy conquered by the women’s team since 2015.

These results have shown that the Belgian national female group was stable and able to evolve up to the highest level, European Championship rugby. The lionesses thus join Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands to constitute a REC 2026 with four nations.
