Two days have passed since the moves of 1is July and 1899 households are still accompanied by a housing research assistance service. These are 211 more households than last year on the same date, reports data from the Quebec Housing Company (SHQ).
In response to these “alarming” data, the Popular Action Front in Urban Recentment (FRAPRU) requests, Thursday, that the Government of Quebec sets a clear action plan in order to make social housing a priority.
Presented at a press conference by the organization, SHQ data report that among the tenant households still accompanied, 425 were declared in “temporary accommodation”, either provided by their municipality or at relatives.
“We must not normalize these situations. Although there is an increase in construction sites, the rare dwellings that are available are unaffordable and do not respect the tenants’ payment capacity, “says Véronique Laflamme, spokesperson for FRAPRU.

Mme Laflamme maintains that tenants should not undergo the consequences of the “political inaction” of governments that have stretched for several years.
The Quebec Housing Company has identified an increase of 340 calls made from the housing research services since 1is July.
According to the spokesperson for the strike, the number of households requiring help in searching for housing may continue to increase in the first part of July. “The government should be aware of the drama that these individuals live on a daily basis. We have a duty not to let go and accompany them to the end, ”says Mr.me Laflamme.
