Urbanisto, the modular cargo bike from Belgium

Urbanisto is an electric bike capable of turning into a cargo biker bike in the blink of an eye. A frankly interesting idea and an execution that seems successful.

In short:

  • The town planning is a modular cargo bicycle that can go from urban bike to the twingor.
  • This electric model is equipped with a Bosch Performance Line engine (75 Nm).
  • The town planning is marketed from € 6,499.

The cargo bike has many virtues, but certainly not that of compactness. A biker bike is practical to transport your children and do your shopping, but when it is empty, this whole space becomes very bulky. This is where the idea of Benjamin Declercq, creator of Urbanisto, takes on its full meaning, a cargo bicycle capable of becoming a classic bicycle again. And vice versa.

The concept of urban planning cycling is therefore to be able to adapt a rigid fork and a 27.5 inch wheel. Something to get a fairly classic electric urban bike with an open setting, easy to span. By winning the fork under the steering socket, you can then come to fix a biveur crate mounted on a 20 -inch wheel. This cash register also coming to the frame in front of the engine.

The system therefore allows you to go from a classic bicycle to a cargo bike in just a few seconds. You still have to reconnect the brake hose. Indeed, the town planning is based on a pair of Magura MT5 hydraulic disc brakes. It was therefore necessary to find a solution to disconnect and reconnect the brake hoses, without the oil flowing. Better will not be worth forgetting this stage when changing the fork, under penalty of a unpleasant surprise.

The manufacturer does not communicate on the weight that his cargo bike can withstand. The town planning is based on a Bosch Bosch Performance Line engine (and not a cargo line) which develops 75 nm of torque. This motorization is associated with a battery of 400, 545 or 725 Wh and a transmission by belt and hub with continuous variation in enviolo.

For the moment, the Modular Urbanisto bike is mainly distributed in Belgium. It is billed from € 6,499 in a stripped version, designed for the transport of equipment. The version capable of transporting passengers is sold from € 6,999.

Inevitably, this project recalls that of Gambade, of which we were talking to you a few months ago. A modular cargo bike also designed and manufactured in France.
