Stellantis Launches a massive reminder of 640,000 diesel vehicles in Europe due to a potentially serious problem on engines. Vehicles equipped with the 1.5 liter Blue HDI diesel engine and manufactured between 2017 and 2023 present a risk of premature wear of the camshaft chain, according to Le Journal «Image».
Opel, Peugeot and other brands
This failure concerns several brands of the group: Opel, Peugeot, Fiat, Citroën and DS Automobiles. The technical problem identified by Stellantis could have serious consequences for the owners concerned. Indeed, the chain can wear out abnormally and, in the most serious cases, breaks completely, then causing substantial damage to the engine. Drivers must be particularly attentive to unusual noise from the engine, the first alert sign of this failure.
To identify vehicles at risk, the manufacturer has developed a specific application capable of analyzing engine noises. This technology will be used during each workshop passage of the vehicles concerned. If the application detects an anomaly, the chain will be immediately replaced without prior discussion.
A complete action plan for Stellantis
Stellantis has planned a full action plan including a software update and potentially an oil change for all the vehicles concerned. If necessary, the camshaft chain will also be replaced. The manufacturer also extends the guarantee of vehicles affected at ten years or 240,000 kilometers, a measure which even includes the retroactive reimbursement of the repair costs already incurred by certain owners, subject.
The recall will gradually take place, with a priority given to the oldest vehicles, considered to be the highest risk. The owners will be contacted directly by mail or email. If in doubt, they are invited to contact their dealer or to consult the page concerning reminders on the site stellantis-support.com.
