The Flemish government is working on a complete reform of technical control, the rules of which are different in each region of the country. This reform will remove several rules. In the future, garages can be recognized as technical control centers. Technical control centers will also continue to exist.
A fixed price will no longer be taxed, but a price range. This should encourage competition, according to the minister. However, the maximum price will not exceed the current rate.
Used technical control will be deleted; A valid technical control certificate will suffice for sale.
The PASS will remain compulsory, because it is a federal competence. Technical control when installing a trailer will also be deleted.
In the future, all vehicles should only be checked every two years, except for older models.
Fourgonettes, taxis, ambulances and agricultural vehicles will also have longer deadlines.
Technical control centers will no longer check if the vehicle is provided. In the event of a major defect, the owner will now have two months to carry out a new technical control.
The relaxation of the rules should be implemented by the summer of 2026. Measures that require legal work are expected for 2028.
