In several cities | The festivities of July 4 marked by shootings

(Indianapolis) This year, July 4 was marked by several shootings in the United States, including one in Indianapolis which left at least two dead.

The chief of the metropolitan police of Indianapolis, Chris Bailey, told journalists early Saturday morning that chaos was “totally unacceptable and useless” and that parents and tutors had to control their children better.

“Hundreds of children unattended here,” he said during a speech in the city center. I do not know how many times I had to repeat it: we are not the guards of your children. You are! And parents and tutors must intervene. A child died tonight. »»

Mass shootings were reported in other cities, notably in Philadelphia, Chicago and Brockton, Massachusetts, where six people were hospitalized after a fight occurred early on Saturday.

Violence and shootings are often up during the summer months, especially around July 4, one of the deadliest days of the year in the United States.

The Chicago shooting, which left seven people in a serious or critical state, follows another mass shooting on Wednesday evening in a lively district renowned for its restaurants and its nightlife. In total, four people were killed and 14 others injured.

In Queens, in New York, the police said that a person died and that three others were injured in a knife attack after fireworks.

In addition, a man from Wareham, in Massachusetts, died after being hit by fireworks. Police said they had found Robert Spagnuolo, 70, with a “face injury”. His death was found on the spot.
