Five people died among the 23 suspicious cases of cholera recorded in recent days in five of the fourteen health zones in the Mai-Ndombe Province, announced the provincial Health Division, Dr Francis Kambol.
The health areas concerned are Bolobo, Mushie, Nioki, Kwamouth and Yumbi.
« We are waiting for samples to be taken and sent to the National Biomedical Research Institute (INRB) to confirm or deny the cholera epidemic, before the provincial authority can officially declare it “Said Dr. Kambol.
Deaths were recorded in the health areas of Bolobo, Nioki and Mushie.
Call for compliance with hygiene measures
Faced with this situation, Dr. Kambol has urged the population to strictly observe the rules of hygiene to limit the spread of this highly contagious disease, which manifests itself in particular by acute diarrhea and vomiting.
Among the recommended measures:
- Wash your hands regularly, especially after going to the toilet, before eating, cooking or breastfeeding a child;
- Avoid shaking hands;
- Go immediately to a health center in the event of symptoms.
The chief of division insisted on the importance of a rapid reaction to avoid large -scale spread.
