GenevaSuccess for the “Dign Sites” campaign in Unia, but …
The vast majority of companies access the union’s requests to protect workers on construction sites. “Unworthy” cases increase, however.
Unia’s visits to construction sites to control the working conditions of workers are bearing fruit, rejoices the union. At the end of the week, the latter took advantage of the day of Romande action “sites worthy and everywhere in Switzerland” to take stock of the operation at the end of the lake. Positive observation: since the start of the year, 99% of improvement requests have been followed by actual measures “within 24 hours”.
The checks have notably focused on the presence of toilets to standards, regulatory break places and access to water points. But also on respect for the person (vis-Ã -vis video surveillance) or even on the technical lifting means to avoid excessively heavy loads for workers. The positive follow -up of these requests “shows the importance of field work”, according to Unia.
Shadows on the board
The fact remains that the painting is not all pink. The organization regularly denounces “unsanitary” sites with “execrable working conditions” for staff. According to her, these cases “multiply”. Since the beginning of the year, in Geneva, “we had to act fifteen times in different places to demand respect for the dignity of the workers”. Unia notably points to a site, on Chemin Henri-de-Buren, in Vernier, which will require a fourth intervention.
In general, the union deplores that without action on its part, “respect for workers, excluding legal obligation, has little interest in certain companies”.
