The information was unveiled Wednesday by Radio-Canada and confirmed by The newspaper. The $ 275 million obtained by the Minister of Transport will be used to “continue to develop the business file,” said his office.
The expense was approved by the Council of Ministers, during the last meeting of this decision -making body before the holidays.
Planned envelope
Jonathan Guay, director of deputy cabinet of the minister, wanted to emphasize that the sums were already planned. “It is important to remember that these are not additional sums. This envelope is planned at the PQI [Plan québécois des infrastructures] Since 2019. As the Minister has committed, the project continues to advance in a methodical way, taking a new step today. ”
These sums were requested by the Minister of Transport to continue to advance the Pont-Tunnel project which must rally the Saint-Romuald sector, by the Chemin des Îles, in the Lebourgneuf sector, in Quebec, according to two possible scenarios: the first would go through the Pierre-Bertrand boulevard, the second through the Robert-Bourassa motorway.
Corridor
The Minister of Transport would also have obtained the green light from her colleagues for the central corridor chosen and announced to the population last June.
The invoice for the construction of this megaprojet is estimated between $ 5.3 and 9.3 billion, which does not include several costs linked to design studies, environmental studies, land acquisition and expropriation costs as well as the internal costs of the ministry.
In addition to the $ 36 million already spent since 2018 for the third link between Quebec and Lévis, the Ministry of Transport recently granted a “major engineering contract” of $ 46.2 million.
