“Do you pay by card?” Shops will soon have less expenses on small transactions – rts.ch

From September 1, the costs of debit card transactions of an amount of less than 14.99 francs will drop for merchants in Switzerland. The price supervisor announced on Tuesday a new agreement with the company Worldline, dominant in the electronic payment sector.

In recent years, Mr. Prix and the current Worldline (former Six Payment Services) have concluded several amicable agreements which have allowed merchants to save several million francs per year, according to the prices supervisor.

The last agreement expired last December, which gave rise to new negotiations between the two parties, announces The latest newsletter from the Confederation Price Supervisor.

The main novelty concerns costs related to national and international debit card transactions of an amount of less than 14.99 francs. These costs are reduced by 30 base points (0.3 percentage points).

Savings of 10 to 15 million

Mastercard debit card transactions will be invoiced 8 cents +0.19% of the transaction (instead of 8 cents +0.49%), those by Visa 10 Centimes +0.65% (instead of 10 cents +0.95%).

The maximum costs set in the previous agreement, namely 2 francs for the Mastercard DEBIT and 3.50 francs for the DEPAT VISA, are maintained.

According to the estimate of the price supervisor, these measures will allow Swiss merchants to save annual savings of around 10 to 15 million francs. The amicable agreement will remain in force until September 30, 2027.
